Hot off this press this morning from Web Worker Daily – they report that the Rasmussen Reports polling organization tracked the responses from users from across the country and these are the results:

” ‘Should the Federal Communication Commission regulate the internet like it does radio and television?,’ 49% of the respondents said “yes.” 35% were against regulation, and 16% not sure.”

You heard it right, 49% of Internet users think that the FCC should monitor and control the web.  This first proves that 49% of users have no clue about the online industry, since this regulation concept wouldn’t even be possible.  It may have been possible back in 1996 when there was no true user engagement, but now in the Web 2.0 world it’s simply not possible for ANYONE to monitor and regulate even 1% of the web.

Secondly it reveals a rather disturbing trend from the public who think that the government should be responsible for every aspect of our everyday life.  Sorry for this Sunday rant, but please, start educating yourself and make your way over to 2008.
