We did a feature a few days ago on the beta launch of Tidal.tv (coverage), the new competitor for Hulu.  Since their launch last week Alexa has shown Tidal to be growing very rapidly, with them jumping over 500,000 spots in terms of overall ranking.  And either the growth has caught up to them or they ran out of money, because they’ve been down for the past couple of hours and are not even supplying an error message.

This simply follows up on every other major destination that seems to be going down lately.  Twitter, Amazon, Facebook and LinkedIn have all experienced outages lately, some worse than others (Twitter!).  However it illustrates that as tech enterprises grow, they are putting less and less of a priority on technical infrastructure and are focused instead on driving traffic.

This outage is not unexpected since Tidal is, by definition, in beta.  However a few minutes is normal for a site in their first couple weeks.  However multiple hours is never a good sign of things to come.  So it appears that Hulu might have not have too much to worry about after all.
