As crowds of tech savvy consumers flocked to Apple stores around the country last week for the release of the new 3G iPhone, some savvy entrepreneurs also got into the action. Freeiphoneswap.com street teams, consisting of sales representatives and models, were strategically placed in cities around the country to offer existing iPhone owners the chance to trade their old iPhone for $200 and the opportunity to upgrade to the new 3G phone for free. The new phones cost as much as $600 when they were first announced but for existing iPhone owners upgrades are available for $200-$300 depending on the model.

Freeiphoneswap.com promises to make obtaining a new 3G phone as easy as 1-2-3. The website will pay consumers $100-$200-$300 depending on the model of iPhone that they presently have, which will in turn allow the consumer to upgrade to the new 3G for free.

“We will take in all working original iPhones and give the consumer, in most cases $200 – which is the cost of the standard upgrade to the new 3G,” said Freeiphoneswap.com spokesman, Sam Hickson.

Freeiphoneswap.com, which is based out of Miami, presently has representatives in 15 locations around New York City, as well as Miami, Atlanta and California to facilitate the transactions and they are working on establishing drop-off points in other cities as well.
