TruMedia Networks, a developer of social media technologies focused on building communities of sports fans, announced it has acquired online sports communities Sawxheads.com, Celtsheads.com, Patsheads.com and Blackandgoldheads.com from Boxcar Media. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition builds an integrated suite of social ‘fan’ media properties under the TruMedia Networks umbrella all aimed at targeting fans of Boston’s major sports teams: the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins.
“The passion that Boston sports fans have for their teams is legendary and online communities such as Sawxheads.com serve as an interactive platform to share their unvarnished opinions about all things Red Sox,” said Rafe Anderson, CEO of TruMedia Networks. “In just a year, Boxcar Media has established Sawxheads.com as the premier grassroots destination for diehard Sox fans and Boxcar Media will continue to play an active role as we move forward. Our strategy is singularly focused on broadening this grassroots network of loyal, engaged fans.”
Sawxheads.com, Celtsheads.com, Patsheads.com and Blackandgoldheads.com are built on a social media platform employing advanced Web 2.0 social tools, designed to provide its members a compelling interactive fan experience. Users can create their own unique profile and share their thoughts and passion with other community members. Each site allows members to voice their opinions through online forums, participate in polls, create their own blog, post their own photos and check out the latest rumors and articles from local sports media sources.
In recent weeks Sawxheads.com has developed successful advertising partnerships with tier-one brands on a national and local level including the Yawkey Way Store, the official merchandise store of the Boston Red Sox.
“When it comes to social networking, advertisers are seeking to partner with highly targeted, engaged online communities,” said Anderson. “Sawxheads.com is an extremely loyal online community of men and women who share the same common bond – an affinity and passion for all things Red Sox – making it an ideal platform for brands wanting to connect and communicate with this captivated audience.”
As each online community evolves, celebrity personalities from the sports and media world will be invited to provide thoughts and opinions. Sawxheads.com has already provided fans with access to former NESN personality Hazel Mae and Red Sox color analyst Jerry Remy, each writing their own blog as members of Sawxheads.com.
